YOSEMITE NAT'L PARK

 Yosemite National Park was created in 1864 as a forest reserve by President Lincoln.  It has grown into an American icon of wilderness. it touts El Capitan towering 3,000 feet and Half Dome.  Mt. Lyell peaks at 13,114 feet. Yosemite's beauty is a a national treasure and unrivaled. It becme a World Heritage Site in 1984.  Yosemite is home to more than 400 species of vertabrates.It is also famed for giant Sequoias groves and oak woodlands.

 In 1903, President Theodore Roosevelt made a historic visit to Yesemite and met with John Muir.

Visitors to the park can hike, backpack and birdwatch.  Hike Half Dome requires a climbing permit from the Visitor Center.There are 13  main campgrounds.  Lodging offers cabin accommodations to luxury hotel rooms.
